One of the best ways to build a strong personal brand is to do public speaking. If you really want to get more clients and become known as the go-to expert in your field, one of the things that you absolutely have to do is public speaking. And it could be speaking at your own events, your seminars, webinars, and panels or speaking at other people's events, their seminars, webinars, and conferences.
In the past twenty years in my experience of working in different countries with different audiences and different niches, I can tell you one of the most effective ways to build a strong brand and to get known as the go-to expert in your field is to do more public speaking.
Long ago, when I wanted to start my career, I started holding seminars. I started small with five, ten people, and then it grew. In one of my recent events where Jack Canfield was the keynote speaker we had more than eight thousand registrants! So, I started small, and I built on that. Don’t worry about that; you can always start small, and you can always produce your own events!
So, one thing is to produce your own events and speak at them; the other option is to speak at other people's events. Some people have the platform, they have the audience, and they have the influence and if you can speak on their platform for free, good for you!
But sometimes, you have to pay you have to sponsor the event to get the opportunity and there is nothing wrong with that! I see a lot of people that are averse to this strategy. They say:" I don't pay to play! I don't pay to speak!" Then you're stupid! Honestly! Because this way you can get access to a big platform with the right kind of audience and you're just investing in your branding and marketing; It's a sponsorship! There is nothing wrong with it! It's a strategy for your market!
Then again, remember two things you can do to do more public speaking and to build your brand.
Number One: Hold your own events, produce your own events, your own seminars and webinars, and start small and build on that and Number Two: Use other people's events speak at their events, sometimes for free and sometimes you need to sponsor.
Now, my question to you is: “Do you even do public speaking for your marketing and branding?” And the second question: “Do you produce your own events or do you normally speak at other people's events?”
