A lot of speakers, coaches, consultants or, in general, subject matter experts come to me and say: "Shahab, I want to help people! I know that my knowledge and expertise can help people solve their problems and achieve their goals! But the thing is I don't have a university degree! What do I do?" You see, in this day and age, you don't necessarily have to have a PhD to be able to help people. You can gain the knowledge and get the expertise that is necessary for you to help your audience without going to university or going through long certification programs. Don't get me wrong! I'm totally for going to university and get certifications. I'm a certified coach myself, and I've been through numerous different programs. I sit on the board of ICF (International Coaching Federation in Toronto), so I'm totally for getting certification and going to university; but the thing is, what's even more important than having a PhD or a certain designation are TWO things:
1 - Number ONE: Do you have a success story? Do you have a relevant story of going from rags to riches or overcoming a certain challenge? Some kind of a success story, some kind of a background in the area you want to speak, coach, consult, or mentor people? The thing is, let's say you want to be a successful relationship coach. Do you have a relevant story where you were able to overcome a relationship challenge? Or let's say you want to be an academic coach. Do you have a story where you were able to achieve a certain academic success or you were able to deal with a certain academic problem? So, number one is really having a relevant story, a life story or a success story. Some kind of a background in the area you want to help people in. It's not just enough to like a certain area. It’s good as a hobby, but if you want people to pay you good money and trust you with their problems and goals, you need to have some kind of a relevant life story or success story.
2 - And number TWO: Do you have a complete solution to offer to your audience, or is it just random stuff and bits and pieces of interesting material that you've gathered, but it's not necessarily a full road map or a complete set of tools that can help your audience go from point A to point B? You see, for example, when I want to help my audience or coaches, consultants, and subject matter experts in general, I have my book I have the online course, I have the in-person course, and a coaching program. I even offer them tools and platforms on social media, at my events, and in my books to get them in front of their audience. It’s a complete road map and a complete solution.
Now my question to you is:
1 - Number one: Do you have a relevant story a relevant background in the area you want to offer your services and products?
2 - And number two: do you have a complete solution in place that can help your audience go from point A to point B, and if you don't, get started right now!
